Shaggy's X Diamant: Shared Roots

Shaggy's X Diamant: Shared Roots

I was 20 years old, a sophomore in college, skiing at Boyne Mountain in Northern Michigan.

Completely unfamiliar with the mountain, which is far more complicated than you’d expect given its size, a buddy and I found ourselves what you could call on the back side of Boyne.

As we skied toward the base, we noticed a large tent with the words Shaggy’s printed across it and a crowd of people checking out skis. Intrigued by a brand I had never heard of, we wandered over to see what all the fuss was about.

Fast forward a few years.

I graduated from the University of Michigan in May of 2022 and started working on Diamant in January of 2023.

I never stopped following Shaggy’s and was always interested in working with them. Not only do they hand-make all of their skis right here in Michigan, but they also create incredibly detailed custom designs that can be applied to any of their skis.

That combination is pretty hard to beat.

In February of 2025, Gavin finally got in touch with Shaggy’s and pitched both our capabilities and an idea.

A small batch of Shaggy’s x Diamant limited-edition skis to pair with a small run of custom Shaggy’s x Diamant Weekend Warriors.

They liked the idea, and we got to work. After some back and forth, we landed on a design and figured out how to accent the bag to match.

Eleven months later, we’re excited to finally launch the collection: Shared Roots.

The design is inspired by the topography of Northern Michigan around Lake Superior, highlighting the shared Michigan connection between Diamant and Shaggy’s.

The goal was to make the products pop while staying grounded in what connects the two brands. I will say, my idea to lean heavily into the fact that Ernie and I (two-thirds of Diamant, mind you) are connected to Michigan through a University of Michigan–inspired design was quickly shut down by co-founder number three, who will remain unnamed.

I also had the chance to see the skis being made in Shaggy’s Northern Michigan factory. The process is incredibly complex, and the level of detail is remarkable. It’s pretty wild to watch a piece of wood turn into a precision tool we use to fly down a mountain.

Sometimes it takes getting lost on a mountain in Northern Michigan to find a brand you want to work with.

Shoutout to Boyne Mountain Resort for unknowingly providing the networking platform.

You can shop the Weekend Warrior here.

You can shop the skis at skishaggys.com by selection "Other" and specifying "Shaggy's X Diamant".

See you on the slopes (in your new Shaggy's X Diamant skis, I hope).
