Article: NYC SKI BUM

NYC SKI BUM

NYC SKI BUM

I started drawing the Weekend Warrior in my first NYC apartment back in October 2022.

My apartment was situated on 34th and 1st (View 34 for those of you in the know). I overheard sirens, watched pigeons get fed, hailed cabs, commuted via the Subway, and ate from food carts for the first 2.5 years of Diamant.

No, this is not the view out of my apartment. But you get the point.

The company has always been tied to NYC. And no, not just because that’s where our Headquarters are (they are in my second NYC apartment, where I no longer live – thank you to my friends for throwing out the business mail).

For the past three years Diamant has had a singular focus.

Create products that improve ski travel.

We obsessed over the design, durability, and features required to make getting to your destination easier.

But this version of the Weekend Warrior is a bit different.

No no, the features are all the same. It’s still your favorite TSA approved boot bag.

It’s the artwork.

It pays homage to the start of your journey. The place you have to leave in order to arrive at the mountains. After all, every journey has a starting point.

In our case, that starting point is New York City.

Introducing the Weekend Warrior 2.0: NY Ski Bum.

As my friend (and former roommate who saw the birth of Diamant) Justin likes to say, "absolute cinema".

As with most great designs, they’re rarely achieved on their own.

To bring this vision to life we partnered with Bozeman based artist Emily Mintle (AKA: Camber Creative).

Do yourself a favor and follow her on Instagram. @camber_creative.

Yes, the genius behind those custom designed Kinco and Hestra gloves.

Back in February 2025, I was doomscrolling Instagram and a really interesting video popped up. It was a pair of Kinco gloves getting designed (I believe the design was Hot Chilly Peppers), weather proofed, and essentially developed into a functional piece of art.

I was hooked and instantly dm’ed the artist (yes, this was Emily) and proposed that she design a boot bag for us.

We needed to create something, and while I wasn’t exactly sure what that would be, I assumed we would just figure it out.

We loved the doodle style of her art and desperately wanted to combine her work out of Montana with our highly sophisticated design.

One of the first mood-boards we played with as a group, ended up being the winner.

That connection proved to be the ski culture of the city that brought me to develop this bag in the first place. After all, if there was no city to commute from, I would have never realized that a better boot bag for traveling to ski in Montana had to exist.

Relying on her art style, we developed a simple concept based on NYC’s most famous resident: the pigeon.

Outfitted with his ski goggles and skis, our pigeon shreds.

I mean, does it get better than that? Look at that level of detail!

But he’s not alone of course. His two friends ski with him. And so does Lady Liberty. They ride Ski Cabs to the mountain and they take the Gondola across the Brooklyn Bridge.

One Pigeon is doing a trick. The other has a nice beanie.

The irony here is that taxi drivers actually really don't like taking your ski gear all the way to JFK to make those 5pm flights out to the Rockies. Sorry, I'm venting.

The art is subtle (nearly monochrome). From afar the bag is essentially a deep gray. But when you get close to it, the details appear. IYKYK.

Light accents of Camber Purple (Emily, I hope you are okay with my naming of your brand colors) compliment the dark colors and provide just the necessary amount of pop.

Lady Liberty will now be protecting your helmet on all future trips...

NYC Ski Bum is our salute to NYC for inspiring a design that is so ingrained in the need to be able to run out of your highrise office and go straight to that Big Sky powder day.

You can shop the NYC Ski Bum here.

We only made a few and they'll sell out soon.

See you on the slopes.
